After volunteering in rescue, I have seen the huge costs in saving dogs within Canada. On top of vetting, medical, training, etc. having to pay to fly dogs to rescue can be a big financial strain. Adoption fees barely cover the costs of most care, if at all. Rescues and rescue co-ordinators reach out to Flights For Hope when they are in need of financial support/help to cover flight costs. By raising funds to pay for flights, some of this strain can be alleviated, hopefully allowing the rescues to save MORE dogs! Funds collected are sent directly to the rescues in taking these dogs or to the group organizing transport. 100% of any proceeds raised go directly to pay for flights. This is a community group of dog lovers, supporting fundraising events, sponsoring flights/donating to help these dogs get to safety, and providing education and exposure to the growing needs of our homeless Canadian dogs.
Many of the dogs we help come from remote communities in Canada’s Northern areas. Northern Winnipeg has Canada’s largest overpopulation problem (yes we have one!), domesticated dogs are roaming, often fending for themselves, and vet care is non-existent due to lack of access and funds. Some areas still use dog ‘culls’ (shooting stray/roaming dogs) as a means of population control and public saftey. Some cases are urgent cases where dogs have been found in urgent need of vet care as a result of an accident or just general poor health from fending for themselves (mange, malnutrition, etc). We are here to try to help as many as we can, when we can! These beautiful souls are who I call ‘Canada’s forgotten dogs’. Thanks for visiting. Your support is truly appreciated.
